The process by which Non-Catholics are welcomed into The Faith is known as the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults, or OCIA (formerly referred to as RCIA).
This process generally begins in Autumn each year and continues with weekly learning sessions until Easter. At that time, generally at the Easter Vigil Mass, catechumens (those who have not been baptized as a Christian) and candidates (those who have been baptized but not yet received one or all of the forward sacrament -- Reconciliation (confession), First Holy Communion, and Confirmation -- are ceremoniously welcomed into the church, with the completion of all previously uncelebrated sacraments.
